Idaho Democrats Prepare For Saturday Caucus

Idaho Republicans caucused last month, and now it’s the Democrats’ turn.

Members of the Gem State’s blue party will meet this weekend to cast a vote for President Barack Obama, or if they’re unhappy with the status quo, they may choose not to commit.

But, local leaders said the main purpose is electing delegates to represent each county at the state convention in Boise this June, where they’ll help write the party platform.

“If no new people show up, the platform doesn’t change; it doesn’t progress,” said Neil Williams, chairman of the Bonneville County Democrats. “So, you need new people, need new ideas, and you need them to come and state them.”

Idaho’s Democratic Caucus is Saturday at 10 a.m.

Williams said if voters aren’t in the door by 10 a.m. on the dot, they will not be allowed to participate, only observe.

Voters do not have to be registered with a party but will have to sign a statement saying they’re a Democrat.
