Stand Off Suspect’s Ex-Wife Speaks Out About Marriage

After watching an earlier broadcast, the ex-wife of the man who led police on a high speed chase after firing gun shots approached reporter Caleb James at his live report.

Britney Andrus said she wasn’t sure she wanted to do an interview, but said she needed to set some things straight. Eventually, she did decide to talk if our cameras didn’t show her face.

Andrus said she thinks her ex-husband may have misled police a little bit on facts concerning their marriage. She was upset to hear police comments about Andrus’s mental breakdown Wednesday night having a connection to their marriage ending.

“I have been divorced from Jeremy since November of 2011,” she said. “And I have not lived with Jeremy since November of 2010.”

Her Facebook page still says Britney Andrus, and it’s her legal name.

She and Jeremy share custody of their kids, who spent last weekend with their dad. She said everything seemed fine. Then, out of the blue Wednesday night, Jeremy showed up at her parent’s house with a gun.

Our station asked Andrus if she had ever experienced any abuse by her ex-husband.

“He’s threatened with my kids before, that I’d never see them again, keep them from me, take full custody of them,” she said. “Mental abuse.”

The mental abuse, she said, turned into something she’d never seen before. Jeremy wanted her to come with him on Wednesday night. He held a gun to her step-dad’s head before leading cops on a chase, she said.

“It was terrifying, it was traumatizing, and I hope I never have to go through it again,” she said. “I know I’ll never forget it.”

Bingham County Sheriff Dave Johnson said aggravated assault and eluding charges are possible for Jeremy Andrus, but they will wait to hear from doctors at Portneuf Medical Center’s Behavior Health Center before making a decision.
