Idaho National Guard Soldiers Head To Afghanistan

About 60 members of the Idaho Army National Guard have left their Fort Hood, Texas training ground for a 10-month deployment to Afghanistan.

The citizen soldiers are part of Company A, 1-168th General Support Aviation Battalion from Boise’s Gowen Field. They’ll be flying and maintaining eight Black Hawk helicopters, transporting personnel and equipment throughout the Afghanistan combat operations area.

The soldiers are expected to return home to Idaho next spring.
