Sentencing Delayed In Officer-Involved Shooting, Chase

The community awaiting a resolution in an October officer-involved shooting will have to wait a little longer.

31-year-old Scott Parker was in court on Monday for sentencing on four felony charges related to a car chase and shooting late last year.

But Parker didn’t receive a sentence, because his attorney said he’s eligible for some veteran’s benefits.

The argument was made some of those benefits may affect sentencing.

Monday’s appearance was meant to mark the end of an ordeal prosecutor Bruce Pickett said the community just wants to move on from.

Parker’s attorney disagreed, and asked judge Dane Watkins Jr. for more time. He said Parker needs more time to bring him up to speed on several aspects of his case. Watkins agreed.

“This is a very serious case,” said Pickett after the proceeding. “So the defense wants to look at every angle or every opportunity that they can to properly represent their client.”

He said the defense was working to present details about several of Parker’s outstanding veteran’s benefits.

“The defense indicated there was some information from the veteran’s hospital they wish to acquire and present to the judge for sentencing,” said Pickett.

Parker will now be sentenced on June 18.
