Rexburg Bike Rally Marred By Fight

A good cause and a biker both got black eyes during a motorcycle rally in Rexburg on Saturday.

The rally attracted hundreds of motorcyclists from across the region to grant the wishes of 7-year-old cancer victim Wesley Johnson. He wanted to participate in a motorcycle rally.

But, Rexburg police said, while bikers were staging for the event two rival clubs met up on 12th West Street. At about 4 p.m., police said five members of the Idaho Falls-based Brothers Speed attacked two bikers from Pocatello’s Empties motorcycle club.

A 57-year-old Pocatello man suffered serious head and facial injuries. Police say he was found lying along the road, but refused an ambulance. The man admitted himself to Madison Memorial Hospital later. A 50-year-old Pocatello man was also hurt, but he was not hospitalized. Neither man was publicly identified. Police said one of the two fired a 9 mm handgun as a warning during the fight.

The five members of Brothers Speed disappeared into the crowd. Although there were many witnesses, none could identify the people responsible, police said. Assault and battery charges await the five as investigation into the incident continues.
