Box Canyon Fire 50% contained
Fire crews expected to have a wildfire near Arco completely contained by Tuesday night.
The Box Canyon Fire was at 380 acres as of 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. It’s burning about four miles south of the Highway 20/26 and 33 junction, Bureau of Land Management spokesman Jason Fallon said.
Fire officials said that although the fire was last reported at 100 acres, there is minimal fire growth. The size of the fire is now more precise due to accurate mapping. Crews have the fire about 50 percent contained. Containment is expected at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The Arco Fire Department is fighting the blaze, and is being aided by a Idaho National Laboratory engine, three BLM engines, one dozer and one water tender.
Several viewers said they could see smoke and flames looking east from Arco.
The Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center said the blaze was started by lightning.
