Mayors oppose closure of control towers

Three Idaho mayors are among 70 community leaders across the country fighting to keep their airport control towers operating.

The Alliance for Aviation Across America released a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration Thursday. Those signing the letter were Idaho Falls Mayor Jared Fuhriman, Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad, and Mayor Fritz X. Haemmerle of Hailey.

As a result of mandatory federal budget cuts, the closures would affect 149 airports nationwide.

The letter claims that “at a time when we as a nation should be focused on creating and supporting jobs, these closures will only serve to hamper business growth, while also potentially leaving even more hundred upon thousands of workers unemployed.”
