2 teens jump out of stolen car in chase

Two Idaho Falls boys were arrested Friday after police said they tried to flee from officers in a stolen car.

An officer was patrolling in the area of 17th Street and South Boulevard around 1:30 a.m. when he tried to make a traffic stop on a 2006 Toyota Camry. The vehicle failed to stop and the two occupants, both 16, jumped from the moving car and fled in the 100 block of East 18th Street, police said.

The car continued to move and went up onto the curb, hitting a small tree and a Jeep Cherokee parked in a driveway.

Additional officers responded to the area to find the individuals. One was found hiding in the backyard of a home near 17th and Lee. The second was located at a home in the 1100 block of South Lee.

The boys were booked into the 3B Detention Center.

The car the boys abandoned and crashed was identified as stolen. It had been reported to police on April 28. The Camry was returned to its owner.

In addition, the boys are also being investigated in connection to vehicle burglaries that occurred in the Idaho Falls area.
