New Idaho Falls Hockey team to play in NA3HL

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - The new hockey team in Idaho Falls is expected to drop the puck in the fall of 2022. A ground breaking ceremony was held Wednesday for the Mountain America Center, the arena the team will call home.

The team will play in the North American 3 Hockey League. It is one of two tier III junior hockey leagues sanctioned by USA Hockey. President of the Idaho Falls hockey team Kevin Greene says the players may be amateurs, but the hockey will be high level.

"Hockey is a sport where kids are encouraged, after you come out of high school, to go play a year of junior hockey and prepare yourself to go into college hockey. So, I would compare it to that level somewhere between good high school hockey and college hockey."

Greene says they plan on holding a name the team contest at some point to determine the team's identity. "We want to keep the word out there and then just get everyone that has an interest in hockey getting involved, being a part of it."
