Explosive material found near park
An explosive substance was found near Beaver Dick Park west of Rexburg.
Madison County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Bruce Bowler said a man found the substance Sunday. He threw it in water, and it blew up in his face. The man was not seriously hurt. He reported the incident Monday.
“It’s not common but it’s not uncommon to find explosive type devices. I mean, the desert is near where people build things,” said Bowler. “Sometimes they go off, sometimes they don’t.”
Deputies found more of the material near the park and called in the Idaho Falls Bomb Team and state hazardous material investigators to look into the matter.
