More COVID-19 infections at Mainz before Bundesliga opener
MAINZ, Germany (AP) — Bundesliga club Mainz has reported three more coronavirus infections ahead of its league-opener against visiting Leipzig on Sunday. Mainz says two players and a coaching team member tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday and Tuesday following Karim Onisiwo’s positive result on Friday. The club says “there have also been cases of infection in the domestic sphere.” Wednesday’s training session was called off and local health authorities ordered a further eight players and two coaching team members into quarantine. That puts 14 of the team’s players in quarantine altogether. They will miss Mainz’ league opener on Sunday.
