Downey man arrested for felony injury to a child

Idaho Falls Police arrested 22-year-old Kyle G. Austin for felony injury to a child after he was found passed out inside a running vehicle in a closed garage with his 21-month-old son on Thursday.

Austin of Downy was booked into the Bonneville County Jail.

According to reports, officers responded to the 1400 block of Jefferson around 4:30 p.m. after a property manager and maintenance person found Austin and the child. The ones who called IFPD say they could hear a running vehicle inside the garage. They were able to open the garage door and saw Austin slumped over the steering wheel. When IFPD officers arrived they entered the garage and found the child in the backseat of the vehicle.

During their investigation, detectives determined Austin, who was under the influence of narcotics, had fallen asleep just after starting the vehicle.

Paramedics checked both Austin and the child at the scene. Neither was transported.

The child was in the care of the police department before being released to the custody of his mother.
