Teton High School senior wins poetry competition

A Teton High School senior is the Idaho Poetry Out Loud state champion. Romee Johnson of Driggs won the poetry recitation competition in Boise Saturday.

The event was sponsored by the Idaho Commission on the Arts.

Johnson hopes to go on to college to become a registered dietician and certified diabetes educator.

Poetry Out Loud is a contest that encourages the nation’s youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage.

Johnson will represent Idaho at the National Finals in Washington D.C. May 2-4.

First runner up was Emily Parker of McCall Donnelly High School with Gavan Harmon of Emmett High School coming in third place.
