Annual street clean up begins in Pocatello

One of the sure signs of spring is here. The crews with the City of Pocatello Street Operations Department have started their annual clean-up of Pocatello’s roadways.

This week, workers and equipment took to the streets to remove the sand and gravel that was applied to the roads over the winter months. The clean-up is estimated to last until late April and the Street Operations Department will be posting a tentative sweeping schedule for the upcoming week on their Facebook page. Residents can also find out where crews will be by calling the department at 234-6250.

“The sweepers are most efficient when there are no cars on the streets,” said Tom Kirkman, Street Operations Superintendent. “We would like to ask residents to please be aware of the sweeping schedule and have their cars off the street on the days we will be in their area.”

Kirkman would also like to remind residents to trim any trees on their property that hang into the street to allow crews to properly access the entire street. The minimum vertical clearance is 12 feet above most streets while designated truck routes are required to maintain a clearance of 14.5 feet.
