Buy a duck, expand a park
A shiny new Ford pickup made its debut Wednesday as the grand prize for the annual Great Snake River Greenbelt duck race. Part of the proceeds from the Duck Race will help build Heritage Park.
“We needed to plan the new park, of course, and what that’s going to look like, but at the same time, Tautphaus Park has shown its age. It’s time to rejuvenate the park in many ways,” said Idaho Falls Parks and recs director Greg A. Weitzel.
The master plans for Heritage and Tautphaus Parks were revealed Wednesday. The plans for Tautphaus are based on the community’s feedback in February.
“We’ve heard from hundreds and hundreds of residents. So what we’ve done is taken all those comments and suggestions and our public meeting work, and put it into two different alternative plans. Tonight we’re going to unveil those plans and we’re going to ask the public, ‘Do you like it? Do you not like it?'” said Weitzel.
The tentative plans include expanded parking, more walkways and added bike lanes. The open house for the public to review and discuss the plan begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Tautphaus Park Ice Arena.
Those who can’t attend the meeting can visit www.ifparkplans.Com to view the designs and make comments.
The proposed plans for the two parks are still in the early stages. They will go to the city council for final approval, and funding options will need to be discussed.
