UPDATE 8/16/16 3:00pm The Idaho Falls Police Department has located one of the 17 guns that were reported stolen inside the business. There are now 16 handguns still missing.

ORIGINAL STORY Idaho Falls police said several handguns, totaling over $10,000, were stolen from a local gun store early Tuesday morning.

Joelyn Hansen, Idaho Falls Police spokesperson, said the burglary happened around 2:46 a.m. at Guns N Gear, located on Utah Ave. When officers arrived they found a roll-up door to the building damaged and that an unknown person had entered the store.

According to police reports, 17 handguns were stolen during the break-in.

Idaho Falls Police do not have additional details on the suspect at this time, but based off of the surveillance footage, we were told the suspect was at the store for about 5 minutes.

“A guy came up to the back door, tried to get in for a little bit. He wasn’t successful, and so he triggered the alarm; heard the alarm go off. Hit the garage door – the receiving door – with his truck. Goes through past the door went through the warehouse, came out to the sales floor. Grabbed one of our shopping baskets and filled it up with as many guns as he could, and then he took off,” said Guns N Gear general manager Andy Giddings.

If you know anything about the burglary, Idaho Falls Police ask that you call the department at 529-1200 or Crimestoppers at 522-1983.
