Fire destroys Blackfoot family home

According to the Blackfoot City Rural Fire Department, it responded to a call early this morning about a house fire on the block of N. 300 W. in Blackfoot.

Officials said the cause of the fire is still unknown but believe it started in the attic. The roof collapsed within three minutes of firefighters arriving. Firefighters will be on scene all day because there are still hotspots in the house.

Neighbors said one dog was in the house and do not know if it survived. Firefighters said it is likely dead.

Officials also said the family that lives in the house were out of town at the time of the fire, for their son’s football game. They have been notified.

The fire is being investigated.
