‘Adopt A Grandparent’ fundraiser low in donations this year

The holidays are a good time to give back. One local shop is in its second year of “Adopt A Grandparent”, but this year, they have a little bit of a setback.

Dreams and Things Unique Boutique in Idaho Falls, makes goody baskets for the elderly, who live in nursing homes.

It is a fundraiser… and each basket costs $25. A basket includes socks, body care, holiday candies and other goodies.

These baskets will be handed out at four full nursing homes in Idaho Falls. They are Turtle & Crane Assisted Living, Lily and Syringa Assisted Living, teton Post Acute Care and Rehibilitation and Lincoln Court Retirement Community.

Their goal is to make 288 baskets by this Saturday, Dec. 3, but right now they only have 75.

Shop owner Torri Briggs is worried there will not be enough.

“Kids are always taken care of with Toys for Tots and the coat drive and all of that but I know a lot of elderly people are kind of put into nursing homes are forgotten about,” Briggs said.

Torri said last year was a success, but this year it has been hard to manage the shop and the goody baskets.
