Hundreds of dollars in stolen property is found after man’s arrest
Rexburg Police are working with neighboring counties on returning possible stolen property that was found in a storage unit.
Police discovered a large amount of items ranging from tool boxes to a dirt bike in a storage unit used by 20-year-old, Klint D. Huffman.
This comes after a woman called police and reported seeing a suspicious man trespassing on her property and in her garage on Nov. 7.
According to Rexburg Police Captain Randy Lewis, a car stereo amplifier was found in nearby bushes of the woman’s residence. Huffman was identified and arrested for felony burglary, possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor.
“During this time we had some thefts that were called in and we were investigating,” Lewis said.
In the process of their investigation, police learned that Huffman had access to a storage unit located near the 1200 block of South Railroad Ave, in Rexburg.
Lewis confirmed that the storage unit was owned by Huffman’s mother, however, her son possessed the key to the lock.
Lewis said enough probable cause was found to secure a search warrant which was served on Nov. 10.
“When we served it we found an enormous amount of items. The items were organized, there were several generators, toolboxes, ammunition, bikes, tires, tools and trailer hitches,” Lewis said.
The items were seized by Rexburg Police and most of the items have serial numbers on them.
Lewis said they are working with Fremont County and Bonneville County to help identify the possible stolen items.
Huffman is being held at the Madison County Jail and his bond has been set at $50,000.
“It’s a process but we expect to see additional charges,” Lewis said.
Anyone who has had any items missing is urged to contact the Rexburg Police Department at (208) 359-3000 or by email at rpd@rexburg.org.
