Possible shooting incident forces people to lock their doors

Nicholas D. Wilmot, 31, of Idaho Falls is being held on multiple charges, including aggravated assault and discharging a firearm within city limits following an incident Thursday night.

Wilmot was also charged with malicious injury to property, battery on a police officer, and violation of a no-contact order.

According to police, officers responded to the 500 block of Tyson after a gunshot was reported at around 7 p.m. Police said Wilmot fired a gun inside a bathroom, threatened to shoot himself, and then threatened to shoot a 34-year-old woman in the home.

The woman ran away from the house. When officers arrived, they couldn’t find Wilmot and issued a Code Red, alerting neighbors in the area.

Police learned Wilmot had arrived at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center around 7:45 p.m.

While at the hospital, Wilmot struck an officer in the face.

Wilmot is being held in the Bonneville County Jail.

A domestic dispute leads police to an Idaho Falls home Thursday night when a man shot a gun in a home.

Police told us the man, whose name has not been released, broke into his home on the 500 block of Tyson Ave. Once he got inside, he shot the gun, police said. Police said he is on a no-contact order.

As he was breaking into the home, he cut his hand, police said.

The man left the home before officers arrived and police issued a Code Red call to the area asking people to lock their doors until the man could be found.

The man was found about a half hour later at the hospital where he was being treated for the hand injury.

No one else was injured.
