F1 team Haas terminates Russian driver Mazepin’s contract
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (AP) — Russian driver Nikita Mazepin has been dropped by Haas F1 despite the FIA ruling he could compete under a neutral flag. Haas has also ended its sponsorship with Russian company Uralkali, which is owned by Mazepin’s father. Dmitry Mazepin is a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his son’s contract to drive was linked to the team sponsorship. Formula One earlier this week terminated its contract with the Russian GP. Haas did not name a new driver. Pietro Fittipaldi has been the reserve driver for Haas.
