Eastern Idaho schools receive almost $50,000 for wellness programs

The Idaho Dairy Council has awarded grants to 38 Idaho schools to support their Fuel Up to Play 60 initiatives.

Hundreds of schools from across the country applied for funding for the program designed to help prevent childhood obesity and help youth develop life-long healthy eating and daily physical activity habits, and 14 eastern Idaho schools were selected.

The schools are as follows:

American Heritage Charter School (Idaho Department of Education) Blackfoot Charter Community Learning Center (Blackfoot School District) Central Elementary School (Sugar-Salem Joint School District) Kennedy Elementary School (Madison School District) Kershaw Intermediate School (Sugar-Salem Joint School District) Lincoln Elementary School (Madison School District) Madison Junior High School (Madison School District) Madison Middle School (Madison School District) Mountain Valley Elementary School (Bonneville Joint School District) Rigby Senior High School (Jefferson County Joint School District) Ririe High School (Ririe Joint School District) Rupert Elementary School (Minidoka County Joint School District) Sandcreek Middle School (Bonneville Joint School District) South Fork Elementary School (Jefferson County Joint School District)

Total grants awarded for this funding period totaled $123,317, and $47,294 of that was awarded to eastern Idaho schools.
