Attorney General responds to complaints about jail and Bannock commissioners

An anonymous letter was sent a few weeks ago to the Idaho Attorney General’s Office.

The letter stated two complaints, or accusations, related to the Bannock County commissioners and the upcoming jail bond.

The first complaint was that allowing part of the bond funds to go toward the crisis center was in violation of Idaho code.

The second part of the letter stated that the county commissioners had misused county funds to create a website to promote the bond initiative.

The AG responded that in the matter of the crisis center, it’s a complaint against county commissioners acting in their official capacity. It does not actually allege a violation of state criminal law and so the AG’s office has no jurisdiction to investigate further on the matter.

To the misuse of funds, the AG said there is no statute or state law prohibiting the use of public funds to promote a bond initiative.

The AG’s office said in regards the letter, it will be taking no further action.
