Water levels fill reservoirs and Shoshone Falls

The 212-foot Shoshone Falls waterfalls came roaring to life this week east of Twin Falls. Officials with the Bureau of Reclamation said higher flows of 5,000-plus cubic feet per second were being released from Milner Dam, upstream of the falls this week. Next week, flows are expected to increase to 7,000-plus cubic feet per second and continue through the end of the month.

Usually, water is held back during the winter and released in April for summer irrigation. But this year, the upper Snake River reservoirs are nearly full.

For example, Jackson Lake is 77 percent full, Palisades is 96 percent full and American Falls is 85 percent full.

The Twin Falls area is not letting the opportunity go by. Downtown was recently renovated and officials say it is lit up for the holiday season. A climbing center, hiking trails, and other amenities are also open. You can learn more about the area here.
