Tandem Tour comes to Pocatello

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) - Students are working together to improve mental health across Idaho.

On Saturday, Pocatello City Hall hosted the Tandem Tour.

This workshop brings high school students together to learn ways they can help themselves and each other through their hardest times.

The goal of the project is to bring awareness to mental health and to teach students tools to handle the struggles many of them face every day.

"We're basically the new generation of Pocatello, and I feel like it's extremely important to have us have more introduction and make it known to the people around us that mental health is a problem," said Century High School student Maiah Slaughter. "And if we're not going to fix it with the youth, it will continue to cause issues. We have a big drug problem in Idaho, and so I think that stems from a lot of mental health issues that have not been taken care of in our youth. Attacking the problems now and spreading awareness now will fix problems in the future for us."

This event was put on by the Association of Idaho Cities and the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council.
