Night time work planned on Holmes Avenue this weekend
A repaving project will create some traffic challenges in the Idaho Falls area this weekend.
The Idaho Transportation Department will be close Holmes Avenue (US-20B) at the Lewisville Highway Exit 310 on Saturday night for a pavement preservation project. Traffic will be detoured to interchanges at Fremont Avenue/Riverside and St. Leon Road. The work will be done between 7 p.m. Saturday night and 7 a.m. Sunday morning.
As part of the project, crews will grind off the top few inches of the existing road and replace the driving surface with new asphalt.
Crews have already replaced broken and damaged pieces of curb and gutter along Yellowstone Highway, which is also part of the US 20 business loop in Idaho Falls. Pedestrian ramps are also being replaced to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
On Sunday, at 7 p.m., crews will close Holmes Avenue (US-20B) at the Anderson intersection, where a diagonal railroad track crosses the road. Crews plan to mill and overlay the road and replace the driving surface with new asphalt. The road will be re-striped before it is opened to traffic.
