Herta push to F1 continues; driver remains mum on 2023 plans

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — McLaren is supporting Colton Herta’s push to receive an exemption to compete in Formula One next season. It comes as Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko says a deal is in place to bring the American to the grid. Marko says any deal would be contingent on Herta receiving an exemption from F1’s governing body for the Super License required to compete, but he told SiriusXM that “all the parties involved found an agreement.” It likely means McLaren will give up the rights to Herta if Alpine gives up the rights to Oscar Piastri before the end of the season. AlphaTauri would then allow Pierre Gasly to leave for Alpine and Herta could go to AlphaTauri if he gets a Super License.
