Nations Capital Christmas Tree making its first stop in Pocatello

The nation’s capital Christmas tree is traveling across the country. On Friday morning, the tree made its first stop here, in Pocatello. Many people from the community spent their morning admiring the enormous tree and signing their name on the trailer.

It is one of over 25 communities along the way for the “People’s Tree.” The tree was harvested in the Willamette National Forest before it began its 3,000-mile trek across the country to Washington D.C. It is following the reverse path of the Oregon Trail.

The tree is a “Nobel Fir” and it stands around 80 feet tall, weighing over 8,300 lbs. It took over 10 thousand ornaments to fully cover the massive tree. Willamette National Forrest team is especially proud because it is the second time the Nation’s Christmas tree came from Oregon.

Carly Johnson, a Pocatello resident, and mother of two came out this morning to see the massive Fir and to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season. “It’s never too early to celebrate the Christmas spirit. Also, my kids think its cool that this is going to the White House.”
