Democrats hoping Biden can provide West Coast election boost

LOS ANGELES (AP) — President Joe Biden’s visit to California and Oregon this week comes close to Election Day and shows how Democrats are calling in reinforcements in states that are typically afterthoughts for the party. Republicans are trying to retake control of the House and a strong showing on Nov. 8 could mean holding seats in California and perhaps flipping ones in Oregon. It won’t be easy in those two Democratic strongholds. Three Los Angeles-area House seats are held by Republicans, but redrawn political lines have transformed those districts into territory that backed Biden over Donald Trump in 2020. The same dynamic is in play in a district father north in the Central Valley.
