Marshall Public Library hosts Arthur Dorros

As part of the Marshall Public Library’s Bellon Visting Author series, children’s author and illustrator Arthur Dorros was in the library talking and reading with kids on Monday.

Dorros, a Seattle native, has written more than 35 books and won several awards.

Kids often ask Dorros which of his works is his favorite, to which he responds, “each book, while I write it and or illustrate it, I get excited about it while I’m doing it.”

Still, certain works stick with him.

” Abuela , which is about a grandmother was inspired by my relationship with one of my grandmothers,” Dorros explained. “And Alligator Shoes, those are a couple of my favorites.”

While Dorros may write about a bunch of different topics, he hopes that his works are relatable to the kids.

“I like kids to be able to connect with different cultures and in science I find kids to be extremely excited, more so than I think a lot of people think, about all kinds of things,” he said.

Using his interests as inspiration for the books, Dorros has had success for more than 30 years.
