Idahoans receive awards for volunteerism and philanthropy
BOISE, Idaho (KIFI) - Volunteers and philanthropists from across Idaho will be honored at the Idaho Philanthropy Day virtual award ceremony on Nov. 15.
“Volunteering is an important aspect of the Idaho way of life. Every year, we take time to honor our neighbors who donate time and talent to help their communities thrive,” Gov. Brad Little said.
Winners were chosen by the Idaho Philanthropy Day judges after studying each nomination to decide which ones best encompass the spirit of philanthropy including time, talent, treasure and involvement in the community.All winners for each category have been published except the Gov. Cecil D. Andrus Volunteer of the Year award, which will be announced live at each celebration. The list of winners can be found at IdahoNonprofits.org.
“It is truly a wonderful thing to share these stories with all Idahoans. We hope everyone is inspired to be more involved with their communities after seeing what can be done,” Idaho Nonprofit Center CEO Kevin Bailey said.
The Idaho Philanthropy Day ceremony will be streamed online again this year to showcase the effect of volunteerism at a deeper level. During the ceremony, each honoree will have a short video highlighting their award-winning work. Viewers will hear from community members impacted, colleagues and the winners themselves.
Karma Metzler Fitzgerald, president of the Lincoln County Youth Commission and winner of the 2021 Governor Cecil D. Andrus Volunteer of the Year for southwest Idaho, will give the keynote address and speak on the positive impact nonprofits have in the community.
The online award ceremony will be broadcasted live via the Idaho Nonprofit Center Facebook and YouTube pages.

Idaho Philanthropy Day is organized by Serve Idaho, the Governor’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism and the Idaho Nonprofit Center.
The annual ceremonies were revitalized in 2017 by Idaho Association of Fundraising Professionals, Idaho Community Foundation, Idaho Women’s Charitable Foundation and Idaho Nonprofit Center. In 2020, Serve Idaho partnered with the Idaho Nonprofit Center to recognize outstanding volunteers and philanthropists, replacing the Idaho’s Brightest Stars previously hosted by Serve Idaho.
The awards are sponsored by Wells Fargo, Idaho Central Credit Union, Bloomerang, Auction Frogs, Idaho Women’s Charitable Foundation and the Advocates.
