VICKSBURG, Mississippi (WAPT) — A man is recovering from injuries after being shot by a homeowner in Vicksburg who said she discovered him in her home without her permission.
Vicksburg police responded to a shots fired call in the 900 block of Hillcrest Street at 11:10 a.m. Thursday morning.
According to investigators, the homeowner came home and found a man inside her home and attempted to hold him at gunpoint until police arrived. The homeowner said the man made a “threatening move”, causing her to fire her gun.
The man then left the home through an open window, police said.
He was later located at the River City Rescue Mission suffering from a single gunshot wound to his forearm. Investigators said he was treated by paramedics and transported to the River Region Merit Health hospital for further treatment.
Police said he will face burglary charges once he is released from the hospital. The homeowner will not be charged at this time based on the castle doctrine.
