LAS VEGAS, Nevada (KVVU) — The man accused in the stabbing death of a Las Vegas reporter was denied bail on Tuesday.

An attorney had requested a “reasonable” bail for Robert Telles, who the criminal complaint said was “lying in wait” when he killed newspaper reporter Jeff German.

A judge on Tuesday denied bail for Telles, who appeared to be praying in court as the motion was being discussed.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Telles’ attorney noted that Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said in previous media interviews that Telles is considered “a flight risk and a danger to the community.” His attorney said that in Wolfson’s interviews, he stated that when bail conversations arose, Wolfson said he would argue for a “very high bail.”

Telles’ attorney said that in his experience, all murder cases are either no bail or high bail. “This isn’t a no bail case. The district attorney has already said so.”

“In this case, the safety of the community argument, Mr. Telles is a danger to no one,” his attorney said.

Telles appeared visibly emotional in court Tuesday as his attorney mentioned that both his wife and mother were seated in the galley to support him.

Authorities said previously German was found dead Sept. 3 with multiple stab wounds. According to prosecutors, Telles disguised himself with a straw hat and reflective shirt and stabbed German seven times.

Las Vegas police previously said that Telles was upset of German’s recent reporting while Telles held office as Clark County Public Administrator. Telles was also reportedly upset about a forthcoming story German was working on for the local newspaper, FOX5 reported previously.
