WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) — The city of West Des Moines on Monday recognized two teenagers for their life-saving efforts.
Fifteen-year-old Jasmine Morris and 17-year-old Jacora Morris saw two young boys fall through the ice into a pond behind their apartment building.
The sisters immediately sprung into action, running downstairs and jumping into the icy water to help the kids.
The rescue happened so quickly, medics didn’t get there until it was over.
The sisters said they just acted on instinct and never thought they would receive an award.
“I feel like it’s good to be recognized for something that we didn’t think would be a big issue. So, I think that’s good,” Jacora Morris said.
“I didn’t think it would be this big of a deal, I just thought I’d let it go after we did it,” Jasmine Morris said.
First responders say, if the girls hadn’t jumped into the water, the kids might not have survived.
