Kiosks Vandalized At Discovery Hill

Informational kiosks were vandalized at Discovery Hill in the Salmon area.

The vandals caused about $1,000 in damage. That cost estimate includes both materials and the labor needed to replace them, according to the Bureau of Land Management, which manages the land.

The kiosks showed open and closed routes. Discovery Hill is a popular location for motorized recreation.

The routes are based on the North Half Travel Management Plan, which was finalized last year. The plan used public feedback while taking resource damage and seasonal closures into account, said Sarah Wheeler, BLM public affairs specialist.

The kiosks were vandalized late last week.

This BLM has had its share of vandalism lately. Within the last year, someone destroyed concrete water fountains at the Mackay Reservoir. In another incident, someone ran over fences at Sharkey Hot Springs.
