Truck Crashes Near Malad Summit

A semi-truck crashed on Interstate 15 near the Malad Summit when the driver became ill Friday morning.

A Walmart tractor with double trailers was northbound when the driver drove off the left shoulder into the median. The truck traveled through the median, across southbound lanes, through a guardrail and down an embankment before rolling onto its driver?s side at about 8:20 a.m., Idaho State Police said.

The driver of the truck, Brian Lance Bell, 39, of Tooele, Utah, was taken from the scene by ambulance to the Onieda County Hospital and then to Portneuf Medical Center where he was treated and released for injuries that were not life-threatening. Bell told police he became ill just before the crash.

One lane of I-15 was blocked to facilitate the removal of both the truck/trailers and the cargo.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Oneida County Fire Department and the Idaho Transportation Department helped ISP at the scene.
