Deputies: Man Throws Drugs Into River, Jumps In To Avoid Arrest

The current of the Snake River wasn?t swift enough for a Rigby man to avoid capture after a deputy pulled him over Thursday in St. Anthony.

Jake Morris, 34, of Rigby gave the Fremont County deputy who pulled him over a false name, grabbed a bag and fled the scene of the traffic stop, the sheriff?s office said Friday.

Morris ran into the Snake River and tossed the bag he was carrying into the river at about 5 p.m.

Deputies went into the river after him and retrieved him and the bag. They said the bag contained meth, cocaine, marijuana and numerous drug paraphernalia items.

Morris is being held in the Fremont County Jail on charges of possession of drugs, a felony, as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, eluding an officer, driving under the influence and false information to an officer. He is being held for outstanding warrants from Jefferson County.
