Las Vegas woman rescued after Albright Peak fall
A Las Vegas, Nevada woman is safe after she was rescued from a rocky field below Albright Peak in Grand Teton National Park late Wednesday. Park rangers said 21 year old Danielle Mendicino was attempting to summit the peak with a climbing partner when she slipped on snow and fell approximately 50 feet.
Park rangers received a call for help just before 5 pm Wednesday just as they were completing a day of short haul training. A contract helicopter located the injured climber and landed atop the Albright Peak summit. One ranger descended about 750 feet to reach Mendicino. She was flown to a park ambulance at the White Grass Dude Ranch then transported by ambulance to St. John’s Medical Center in Jackson, Wyoming.
Park officials said Mendicino was not properly equipped for her intended trip. She was wearing tennis shoes and did not have experience on snow.
It was park rangers’ first short-haul rescue of the 2012 summer season.
