Police: Man hits sleeping woman

An Idaho Falls man was arrested Sunday after police said he punched a woman in the face while she was sleeping.

Nathan Shade Soper, 41, was arrested on charges of domestic battery and attempted strangulation, after an incident on the 2400 block of Pumic Drive.

Idaho Falls police responded to the apartment at about 4 p.m. for a physical disturbance. The 33-year-old woman said Soper punched her in the face while she was asleep after an argument.

Police said the woman woke up and went to the living room, but Soper became angrier and began hitting her again. She left to the bedroom. Soper followed her. She attempted to push him away and he then grabbed her by the throat and attempted to strangle her, she told police.

Police said she was able to free herself from him. He left, but returned later to the apartment, and he was met by officers.

Soper was booked into the Bonneville County Jail.
