At least eight cars damaged in hit-and-run melee

A string of hit and run crashes ended with the arrest of an Idaho Falls man Thursday night on multiple counts of leaving the scene of an accident.Nyle K. Cunnington, 51, was also arrested for driving under the influence.

Idaho Falls police said they were initially called to the intersection of Corner and Walnut Streets at 10:50 p.m. Witnesses said they saw a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup driving southbound on Corner, striking two parked vehicles while turning east onto Walnut.

One witness told police he tried to stop Cunnington from leaving, but Cunnington continued to drive away, almost striking the witness and his car.

Officers finally stopped Cunnington in front of the Idaho Falls YMCA.

Police have identified at least eight vehicles that were struck by Cunnington on Walnut, Corner, Cottage, and 12th Streets, and Curtis Avenue.

Investigators Cunnington’s route from his home in the 1000 block of South Boulevard to the McDonald’s restaurant on 17th Street.

Any additional victims of hit-and-run incidents Thursday night were being asked to contact the Idaho Falls Police Department at 529-1200.
