Ski season begins this holiday weekend
Grand Targhee, Jackson Hole, and Sun Valley are all awaiting your arrival.
“We’re very excited for Friday to kick off the season,” said Ken Rider, the marketing and sales director at Grand Targhee.
Grab your skis and hit the slopes. The ski and snowboard season is under way in eastern Idaho and western Wyoming.
Grand Targhee Resort will open its slopes for the 44th season this Friday at 9 a.m. From the big, wet snowflakes falling from the sky today — opening day is looking to be a good one for skiers and snowboarders alike.
“The snow here is pretty special. We’ve received 73 inches of snow. Since the middle of October we’ve had a 26-inch base,” said Rider.
And with that amount of snow, many activities will be open on the mountain this Friday.
“We plan on opening this weekend with Dream Catcher, Shoshone, and Papoose conveyer lift and potentially accessing up to 1,500 acres of terrain,” said Rider.
If you bring two nonperishable food items to the Grand Teton Resort, you’ll get $10 off your lift ticket while helping the Teton Valley Food Bank.
A total of 350 workers at Grand Targhee have been preparing the slopes. Ski patroller Jason O’Neill says there’s a reason why he’s been working 10 years at Grand Targhee.
“It’s the best snow in the country. We have the best family terrain. It’s a great resort, and it’s a great vibe. Everyone is happy to be working here,” said O’Neill.
But don’t count out Sun Valley, which opens its doors on Thanksgiving Day. Eight trails will be open in total on both Bald and Dollar Mountain. This year, painters from across the world have decorated windows sills for the first Holiday Window Stroll.
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort will host its Snow Peep Show, where retailers of Teton Village will be previewing their newest winter styles and gears this Saturday. Make sure to hit the trails — two of their lifts will be opened.
So according to Rider, “get up here and hit the snow, which is coming down right now”
Pepple Creek, Kelly Canyon, and Pomerelle tell us they don’t have enough snow to open yet.
