Robber puts credit union employees in safe
Police are looking for a person involved in an armed robbery of East Idaho Credit Union in Rexburg.
The FBI is now offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible.
The robber is described as awhite male, about 5’10” with a deep voice. His weight is estimated between 200 and 230 pounds.
According to an emergency alert call to people in the area, the suspect was wearing a mask, baggy jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt, black jacket and black gloves. He was also wearing tennis shoes and carrying a large black bag.
All law enforcement agencies in the region are on alert.
Police Capt. Randy Lewis said the robber made threats and put the employees in the safe and shut them inside. The robber “cleaned out the bank,” taking an undisclosed amount of money, Lewis said.
There were some customers inside the credit union at the time, Lewis said.
According to police, the suspect is believed to be using an automatic assault weapon. There were no injuries in the robbery, which occurred just after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police are looking for a dark blue, four door sedan with tinted windows and LED tail lights. It was last seen heading south on Yellowstone Highway toward Rigby.
Police were stopping drivers on Main and Pioneer and asking if they have unwanted people in their car. They were also making stops on Trejo on Wednesday evening.
Taryn and Kyle Gebs were stopped by police Wednesday afternoon. Taryn said, “He asked us if we had any unwanted bodies or people in the car.”
Lewis said police don’t believe this credit union robbery is related to the East Idaho Credit Robbery in Shelley in June.

Officials consider the suspect to be armed and dangerous. They are advising the public not to approach the individual and instead contact authorities.
