Work camp escapee found in Nampa
A man who escaped from St. Anthony Work Camp five months ago is back in custody.
Acting on a tip, deputies from the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office found Tarango Deforest Padilla at a home in Nampa on Saturday. Padilla will be transported to Fremont County, where he faces possible charges related to his escape, the Idaho Department of Correction said.
Padilla, 39, walked away from the minimum security facility July 5, according to a news release. He was serving a seven- to 15-year sentence for two counts of grand theft from Twin Falls County. He would have been eligible for parole in 2017.
Fremont County officials said Padilla stole a truck from the county. The truck was later found at KJ’s Truck Stop on Holmes and U.S. Highway 20 in Idaho Falls with $10,000 worth of tools still inside, as well as a full tank of gas.
St. Anthony Work Camp is a 240-bed, male facility in St. Anthony. The work camp gives low-risk male offenders the opportunity to hold jobs so they can pay restitution to their victims, pay some the costs of their incarceration, and save money so they are financially prepared for their release back to the community, the department said.
