LINE Commission releases report on future of nuclear energy in Idaho

The Idaho Leadership in Nuclear Energy Commission released its draft report Monday.

The panel was created by Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter to study Idaho’s future position in national nuclear research.
Among the commission’s recommendations is a “high burn-up” fuel storage demonstration that would involve 15.5 metric tons of used nuclear fuel and initial state funding for start-up of a “national reactor test bed” for hot testing of nuclear reactor components.

The report also outlines a big role for the Center for Advanced Energy Studies in Idaho Falls to include studies of water quality, education and training.
