First day to E-file tax returns
Jan. 30 is the first day the IRS will accept tax returns filed online.
Local accountants are ready to help.
Several accounting firms around Idaho Falls report being booked solid with appointments.
This year’s E-file start date is two weeks later than last year.
Darin Thurman, who owns Liberty Income Tax in Idaho Falls, attributes the late start to the IRS needing more time to prepare for an increase in returns filed.
Thuman said that later date makes it more important to act fast.
“It’s a great time (for taxpayers) to take advantage of those refunds — put it into their account,” Thurman said. “It keeps the interest in their accounts rather than the government’s accounts.”
If you E-file, you should get your refund within 21 days.
