Blackfoot School Board chairman gives reasons for resigning

Embattled Blackfoot District 55 School Board Chairman Scott Reese said he is stepping down from his post because he’s concerned of the effect ofhim staying on the board would have on the passage of a supplemental levy.

“I do not wish the past to overshadow the school board’s most important obligation – the education and well-being of our children,” Reese said in a written statement Friday.

Reese and Trustee Jenny Hong were the subject of a citizen recall petition earlier this week. The recall effort is focused on the $220,000 buyout of former Superintendent Scott Crane’s contract, which was carried out behind closed doors.

“While I understand there is room for disagreement, I stand behind my decision regarding the separation agreement with Scott Crane,” Reese said. “Unfortunately, this issue has become extremely personal and distasteful.”

Reese also confirmed that he has resigned his position with Bingham Memorial Hospital and is working for Bingham County effective Friday, Feb. 1.

“It’s my hope that the supplemental levy will pass and that I might spare the district any additional expense of a recall election,” Reese said.
