Jail inmate’s death determined to be suicide

An inmate who died in the Madison County jail in Rexburg Sunday, January 27 has been identified as 37-year-old Jared Bradley Jensen of Rexburg.

Jensen was detained in Bonneville County January 25th and transported to the Madison County jail on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant that night.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation has determined Jensen had returned to his cell approximately 45 minutes before he was found hanging from a sheet attached to his bunk. The incident has been determined to be a suicide.

Jail staff responded to assist Jensen with emergency first aid but he was unresponsive. Madison County ambulance personnel were also unsuccessful. Jensen was pronounced dead at 2:56 p.m.

A full investigation by the Tri-County Sheriffs Association is continuing. Further details will be released when that inquiry is complete.
