IFHS Cheerleaders win national title

The Idaho Falls High School Cheerleaders spend most of the year cheering on their classmates and last weekend, their pep paid off.

The squad of 24 traveled to Las Vegas to compete at nationals in the high school cheerleading division and took first place.

Their coach, Stacey Christenson, said it was the first competition for the squad and their first national title.

Each of the girls received medals and the team took home a trophy.

Christenson said in addition to all of the games and functions the squad attends, they also squeeze in practices and gymnastics classes, which helped them bring home the victory.

“Our experience at nationals was surreal,” said Christenson. “It was the first time most of the girls had ever competed in a venue like that and our first out of state competition ever since I took over the program a few years ago.”

The cheer season isn’t over; the squad still cheers and performs at basketball games.
