Pot bust biggest Soda Springs police have seen

Soda Springs police confiscated 41 pounds of marijuana after a routine traffic stop Feb. 8.

Police Chief Joe Rice said Tuesday on Officer Tyler Scheierman pulled over 58-year-old Brian Eng for a traffic infraction at around 9 p.m. Friday. The odor of marijuana led to a search that uncovered two large duffel bags containing individually packaged one-pound bags of marijuana.

Rice estimated its street value at around $100,000.

Eng was charged with drug trafficking and was being held in the Caribou County Jail.

Rice has served with the Soda Springs police for 38 years and the past 14 years as Chief. He called the bust “by far the largest single marijuana bust that we have ever had.”

He said Eng’s vehicle and an undisclosed amount of cash were confiscated.
