Man gets prison in crash that left 1 dead

A Blackfoot man was sentenced in a crash that left another Blackfoot man dead.

On Tuesday, Seventh District Judge Darren Simpson sentenced Kenny Carl Struhs to 10 years in prison, with five years indeterminate, and a lifetime suspension of his driver’s license.

In January, Struhs had pleaded guilty to a felony charge of vehicular manslaughter. A second felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in an injury or death was dropped as part of a plea agreement.

Blackfoot police said Brent J. Hansen, 36, died when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle driven by Struhs on Aug. 2, 2012, near East Harmony and Rich Lane in Blackfoot. A 6-year-old girl riding with Hansen was hospitalized at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained in the crash. She eventually recovered.

A hearing in April will determine the amount of restitution and child support Struhs will be ordered to pay the victim’s family.
